How should I dress my baby if the temperature drops overnight?Updated 2 months ago

It’s common for room temperatures to fluctuate, especially during seasonal changes, and a drop in temperature overnight can affect your baby’s comfort. If you notice that the temperature in your baby's room drops, here are some helpful tips:

  • Choose the right TOG-rated sleeping bag for the current room temperature. Instead of dressing your baby based on the colder temperature that might develop overnight, select a sleeping bag with the appropriate TOG rating for the room temperature at bedtime. This helps keep your baby comfortable while preventing overheating as they settle in for the night.

  • Adjust the TOG during a diaper change or dream feed. If your baby wakes up for a diaper change or dream feed, use this opportunity to swap their sleeping bag for one with a higher TOG rating to provide extra warmth as the night progresses.

  • Add Arm Warmers later in the evening. If your baby sleeps through the night, you can start with their regular sleeping bag and add arm warmers just before you go to bed. This adds extra warmth without disturbing their natural sleep position.

  • Always check for signs of overheating. Feel your baby’s neck or back to ensure they’re not too hot. If they feel sweaty or warm, remove a layer of clothing. Remember, every baby is different, so be sure to adjust their sleepwear based on how they feel and act. By being mindful of their comfort and adjusting as needed, you can help them sleep both safely and comfortably.
